can i make matcha ahead of time?

yes, but matcha is happiest when it is freshly mixed.

matcha does not fully dissolve like sugar. tiny tea particles stay suspended in the water. if the drink sits, some of that matcha will settle to the bottom.

that does not mean it is ruined. it means it needs another shake.

if you want to prep matcha for later the same day, make a simple matcha-and-water base. sift the powder, mix it smooth with water, then pour it into a clean container with a tight lid.

put it in the refrigerator right away.

when you are ready to use it, shake the container hard. then add fresh milk, ice, and syrup.

i prefer keeping the milk out until serving. a small water base is easier to remix, and you are not leaving a finished latte sitting around getting sad.

if you do prep a full latte, keep it cold. the fda says refrigerated food should stay at 40°f, or 4°c, or below. do not leave a milk drink on the counter for hours and call it meal prep.

the color and aroma can fade as prepared matcha sits. this is why i would prep for later today, not build a seven-day matcha empire on sunday night.

tl;dr: you can make a matcha-and-water base ahead for later the same day. refrigerate it in a sealed container, shake it again before serving, and add milk and ice at the end.

or let Couplet make the matcha at the exact moment you want it. very advanced technology.
